20,000 Leagues Under The Industry Presents

Post-Capitalist Love Songs

FRIDAY, AUG. 6, 2004 9PM
@ ASTERISK GALLERY
2393 Professor Ave. in Tremont
$5

Bill Brown and Roger Beebe are touring the Midwest for two weeks in August showing their films, which deal with strip malls, roadside historical markers, junk car lots, and other fixtures of the contemporary landscape. Rather than approaching these post-industrial forms with simple disdain or irony, Brown and Beebe attempt to find some continued pathos, beauty, or at least hope in the decaying structures of that previous moment of capital. They will be joined by the band Roommate who will be offering up their own "post-capitalist love songs." Roommate is the solo project of Kent Lambert who also records under the pseudonym Ocie Trimble and with the band Kaspar Hauser. For this tour he'll be joined by a rotating line-up of guest musicians. His music has drawn comparison to such diverse influences as Grandaddy, Brian Wilson, Magnetic Fields, and John Cale. Uzine ranked Roommate's "Celebs" EP as one of the 20 Best New Releases of 2002.
